2012 Challenge & The Last All-Day Pajama Day of Christmas Break

Well hello there!  It's been a while, hasn't it?  I spent my Christmas break loafing, lounging, and .......well, let's not talk about the eating okay.  It was great to have some time to relax, but I am ready for a new year of projects and possibilities!  Happy New Year to all of you!

The picture above is my very first photo taken with my new BIG GIRL CAMERA!  ACK!  I got a Canon Rebel T3 DSLR!  It was my Christmas present to myself.  I've never owned or operated a fancy camera.  I've always used a good, but pretty basic, point and shoot.  To be honest I was never really interested in photography, but spending time in the blogging world has peaked an interest within me.  It's kind of like how I wasn't interested in decorating until I had a place of my own to decorate.  Anyhow, I've watched many bloggers grow their photog skills, and I'm very excited to learn.

I played around in manual mode today.  I have no idea what I'm doing, but I sure am having fun!  I didn't edit (like I usually do) any of these photos.  I want to be able to look back at the end of the year and see if I've learned anything.  HA!  Let's hope I learn something.

I don't make a list of resolutions; I just make one.   My resolution this year is to do a 365 photo challenge.  I'm challenging myself to take a picture every day of 2012.

Today's picture is the last all-day pajama day of Christmas break.  I actually took more than just one photo.

As you can see I was also working on "un-decking the halls".  See, my house isn't always clean like you think it is.

My boy asked for footed pajamas for Christmas.

These are from Lands End - in case your boy needs some too.

I hope he never gets too old to wear footed pj's!

Well, it's back to school in the morning, but at least we savored our last lazy day!

At least the boy and I did; the hubs and the girl went to the mall.  That boy and I - we are like two pajama peas in a pod.  ;)

How was your New Years celebration?  Did you make any resolutions?  Anyone else spend the first day of 2012 in their pjs?  Who wants to join me in this 365 photo challenge?  If you know any great photog blogs please leave a link in the comments section.  As you can tell, I need all the help I can get!

*****UPDATE:  After almost a year of playing with my new toy every day I've sort of mastered the manual mode.  I'm not a professional or anything, but I've come a long way.  I shared what I've learned on my photography journey - tips and tricks - here.

  1. Awesome!! I'm so excited for you about your new toy!! It is SO fun (: What a great PJ day. I did the same today!

  2. Carmel, I got the same camera for Christmas! So excited, since my old Digital Rebel bit the dust after 9 years and I've been using a pathetic camera in the meantime. I'm working on improving my photog skills.....heres a link to my pinterest board that has tutorials. Also Centsational Girl has a lot of tips!! Have fun with it!
    And happy new year! -Lisa

  3. Oh I forgot to mention Pioneer Woman has crazy amount of photo tutorials!

  4. Carmel,
I got the t3i on Saturday and I've had fun playing around with it although I have no clue what I am doing either. Here's to a fun year of learning how to take some great photos! And I just love the footy jammies, how cute is he in those. Hope you enjoyed your time in pjs and Happy New Year!

  5. Welcome back. Hey, I have the same camera. If you find a photography workshop in Lex, let me know. I could definitely use it. The last photo class I took was in college in the dark ages.

  6. Huge fan of pajama days. Happy New Year!

  7. sounds like you guys had a nice and relaxing week! i love lounging in my pj's and there was definitely some of that going on here this past week! BUT i am ready for school to start back again! :)
    and awesome new gift!!!!

  8. yay! So excited for you and your new camera. You will be addicted. How sweet is your son. And yes, lots of messy undecking of the halls over here!

  9. Hey girl, I just got the T3 too! I'm very excited about it, I finally got to take some pics today.

I've been trying to read what I can and play with it a bit. Anytime someone has a pin or post about photography, I pay extra close attention.

We can have a photo dual!

    P.S. Happy 2012 :-)

  10. yay! for a new camera! I got mine for Mothers day last year-let me tell you -it changed my life! And I still have NO CLUE what im doing! LOL but I have had fun trying to perfect my skills. I think Kate over at Centsational Girl has the best photo tutorials- especially for indoor pics for home decor.

  11. I got that same camera for Christmas!! I too call it my big girl camera. I think that Santa thought that I was a very good girl last year because I got that and a table saw and a miter saw too. I have no idea how to use any of them... but here is to learning! I will take your challenge but I am already a little behind, but don't tell anyone ;)

  12. Love the new toy!! I hope to do the Project 52 but with a summary post a week of pictures. So excited to get started!

  13. Boy, Canon has sold a boat load of the T3's since I got one for my birthmas. (between my October birthday and Christmas). I need a class, BAD. Otherwise, I'll continue to be a lazy bum and only use my iPhone camera, which is pretty darn good! I'll check out Centsational girl, as someone suggested! Good luck. Your boy is gorgeous, by the way!

  14. Congrats on the camera! Fun! Happy new year!

  15. Thanks for all the links! I'm so excited to hear that so many of you are on the same new adventure! This is going to be so fun!

  16. Hi Carmel - I got the same camera for Christmas too!!! After years of using nothing more than a point and shoot, I'm a little overwhelmed with the new camera - all the buttons and features. My challenge for this month is to work my way through the User's Manual so that I can familiarize myself with the features. In the mean time, I'm confused by things like F stops and shutter speed (things my husband NEEDS to tell me).

  17. Seeing your sweet boy in his feet jammies makes me sad for my little boy...who is now no longer little enough to even wear jammies! All of a sudden, its just boxers! I even git the kids coordinated christmas jammies, and he refused to let me take any pics!!!

And your craft closet gave me heart palpitations!! Ps... so glad you started blogging! I love what you said in todays always word things perfectly!!

Be nice or I'll tell your mom! xoxo -C
